Today, our hearts broke for a new arrival—Kody, a recently abandoned young monkey found injured and alone. What’s most alarming is the painful wound near his eye, swollen and raw, making it hard for him to even open it fully.
Kody was discovered at the edge of the sanctuary area, confused, weak, and clearly in distress. There were no other monkeys nearby, and he showed immediate signs of being recently abandoned, likely by humans or rejected by a troop. But what caught everyone’s attention was the visible injury near his right eye—red, inflamed, and leaking discharge.
Our caregivers moved quickly. Kody was gently wrapped in a soft towel and taken to the treatment station, where he was carefully examined. Though scared, he didn’t resist much—perhaps too exhausted to fight. When we applied the first drops of antibiotic and pain relief, he whimpered softly but clung to the caregiver’s hand, seeking comfort.
The wound appears to be caused by either a physical attack—possibly from another monkey—or a sharp object he encountered while fending for himself. It’s not just a physical injury—it’s a symbol of the fear, rejection, and vulnerability abandoned monkeys face.
