While many see monkeys as playful and social, they also live in highly structured social systems where dominance, hierarchy, and conflict are part of daily life.
The orphaned baby, already vulnerable without a mother for protection, wanders too close to the group’s dominant or aggressive member. In a terrifying encounter, the larger monkey chases and attacks the baby near the edge of a shallow pool. Unable to defend itself or escape, the baby is pushed into the water and struggles to stay afloat.
