A moment of panic filled the forest when baby monkey Brisco suddenly screamed and ran, terrified, after being bitten by a leech. The little one’s frightened cries echoed through the trees as he jumped and scrambled, desperately searching for someone to help him. His tiny body trembled, and his wide, tear-filled eyes showed nothing but fear and confusion.
It had started as a peaceful morning. Brisco had been playing near the small stream, splashing in the cool water, curious as always. The sunshine danced on the water’s surface, and everything seemed calm — until a small, dark leech silently latched onto his leg. At first, Brisco didn’t notice. But when he felt the strange, sticky pull on his skin, he froze. Then, he looked down — and panic took over.
He let out a sharp, terrified squeal and began running in circles, shaking his little leg, trying to get the creature off. His screams grew louder, and his tiny heart raced as he darted through the bushes, calling for his mother. “Eee! Eee!” his cries seemed to say, “Help me! Help me!”
Within moments, the other monkeys in the group began to look around in alarm. His mother, hearing his desperate cries, dropped everything and came rushing toward him. Brisco saw her and ran straight into her arms, clinging tightly, trembling from head to toe. The leech still clung to his leg, dark and swollen.
His mother immediately began inspecting him, her hands moving quickly and gently over his fur. When she saw the leech, her eyes widened. She knew exactly what to do. Carefully, she picked at the creature, trying to remove it without hurting her baby further. Brisco winced and whimpered softly, burying his face in her chest, too scared to look.
Finally, with a soft pop, the leech came off. A tiny drop of blood remained on his leg, but the worst was over. His mother groomed the spot tenderly, licking it clean, soothing her little one with calm, comforting sounds. Brisco clung tighter, his breathing still shaky but slowly beginning to calm.
Caretakers nearby, who had seen the commotion, came over to check on him. They gently wiped the wound with clean water and applied a small herbal treatment to make sure there would be no infection. Brisco flinched at first, but his mother’s presence kept him brave. She continued to groom him, wrapping her arms around him protectively as if promising, “You’re safe now.”
After a few minutes, Brisco began to relax. His cries softened into quiet sniffles, and his little hands loosened their grip on his mother’s fur. The pain had faded, replaced by comfort and warmth. Though the experience had frightened him deeply, he learned that whenever he was in trouble, his mother — and the gentle caretakers — would always be there to help.
Later that evening, Brisco was seen sitting quietly beside his mother, occasionally touching the spot where the leech had bitten him. His curious eyes watched the ground, but this time, he stayed far away from the water. His mother stroked his fur softly, and he leaned against her, safe once more.
The memory of that scary moment would stay with him for a while, but so would the lesson — that even the smallest creatures can cause big fear, and that love, protection, and care can make any pain fade away.
