It was supposed to be a peaceful afternoon—a time for the monkeys to relax, play, and share some food. Chamroeun, a gentle and easygoing monkey, had found a nice spot to enjoy his meal. The aroma of fresh fruit and treats made him content as he nibbled slowly, savoring every bite.
Nearby, Daddy, a larger and more dominant monkey, had become distracted by a wandering chicken. Instead of keeping an eye on the younger ones or guarding the food, he was in full play mode—chasing, teasing, and hopping around with the feathery intruder. The two darted back and forth, creating an unexpected scene that had the other animals watching curiously.
Chamroeun, focused on his snack, barely noticed the chicken sneaking closer. Step by step, it approached, its beady eyes locked on the pile of food beside him. With swift precision, the chicken snatched a piece and darted away. Chamroeun froze for a moment, his mouth still half full, looking both surprised and confused.
But the chicken wasn’t done. Emboldened by its success, it circled back, this time making a bolder grab—right from Chamroeun’s hands. The startled monkey let out a short cry, looking toward Daddy for help. Unfortunately, Daddy was too busy with his playful antics to notice the theft in progress.
Frustrated yet hesitant to fight back, Chamroeun clutched what little food he had left, eating faster in fear of losing it. The chicken, however, wasn’t ready to give up the game. Each time Chamroeun relaxed, it swooped in again, its quick movements making it impossible for him to defend every bite.
Eventually, Daddy’s playful mood ended, and he turned toward Chamroeun—only to find the once-full pile of food almost gone. The chicken, satisfied with its successful raid, strutted off with a final piece in its beak, leaving Chamroeun with only a few crumbs.
The scene left everyone—human and animal alike—amused yet sympathetic. It was a reminder that in the animal world, even the smallest creature can outwit a larger one if given the right opportunity. Chamroeun, though a little hungry, had learned a valuable lesson that day: never get too comfortable when a chicken is nearby, especially if Daddy is too busy playing to help.
