Baby monkey Poki is tiny and shy, with wide eyes that peek out from behind his mother’s arm or the nearest branch. He loves quiet moments — nibbling on fruit, curling his tail around his feet, and feeling safe in his little corner of the world.
But today, a new visitor has arrived: a bouncy, tail-wagging puppy with bright eyes and an endless supply of curiosity. The puppy trots over, nose twitching, paws pattering on the grass. He wants to sniff Poki, play with Poki, maybe even lick Poki’s fuzzy ear if he gets the chance.
Poki, however, is not so sure about this wiggly ball of fur. When the puppy gets too close, Poki squeaks and scurries behind a tree trunk, peeking out with a cautious glare. The puppy tilts his head, puzzled. He tries again — a little bark, a playful paw on the ground.
But Poki isn’t convinced. He climbs a low branch, wraps his tail around it for balance, and watches from above as the puppy dances in circles beneath him. The puppy lets out a soft whine, as if saying, “Come play with me! I won’t bite!”
Poki stays put. He doesn’t like the wet nose or the fast tail. He doesn’t like how the puppy ignores the gentle, careful rules of the trees. He just wants peace, his fruit snack, and maybe a nap.
Eventually, the puppy plops down in the grass, tongue out, looking up with hopeful eyes. Poki peeks down, then relaxes a little — maybe tomorrow they’ll understand each other better. For now, the baby monkey keeps his distance, his tiny heart steady, his world just the way he likes it: calm, quiet, and puppy-free… for now.
